Authorities are reminding the public to be considerate of the elephants currently residing in the city during the Dasara festivities. The countdown to Dasara has begun in Mysuru, and the iconic Dasara elephants have started preparing for the grand Jamboo Savaari parade. This procession, covering a five-kilometre route from the palace to Bannimantap grounds, involves the elephants getting used to various noises such as those from vehicles, loudspeakers, firecrackers, and cannons. The acclimatization sessions occur twice daily, morning and evening, with crowds gathering to witness the procession led by the Howdah elephant, Abhimanyu. To ensure the elephants are not disturbed, authorities have provided guidelines for observing the elephants during Dasara, including following the instructions of mahouts and Kavadis, maintaining a safe distance, avoiding taking pictures directly in front of moving elephants, refraining from honking, handing over flowers to mahouts instead of throwing them directly, not feeding the elephants, and not following them. The Jamboo Savaari, a key event on Vijayadashami, features decorated elephants, colorful floats, and performances by various cultural groups.
